It is very common to not find a discovery....
As I have said in different posts... sometimes I have to go back 3, 4 or more times to find something.
After 3 tries on the same day... I try 24 hours later... if that's is still not working, I try the next week (after maintenance).
also I may just wait until my manuverability is raised 5 or 10 levels.

Level 4 South China Tiger -1768.5,  -96.6
Remember it can move up to 10 grid numbers in both directions....
Are you using the E-book?  The e-book seems to have better "luck" at getting to a discovery.
But it's not a hard science or anything....

as for
Discovery of the longest viper in the world
Maneuverability Level 75
Find information about the longest Viper in the world. Search for the world's longest snake. You should authenticate it after it is found.
Research says the longest Viper is a Bushmaster (Lachesis muta).  The Heaviest is either the Gaboon Viper or the Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake.
Most likely AA Master wants:
Level 6 Eastern diamondback rattlesnake -1177.6, 82.6
Receive; 540,000 coin, 134,640 maneuverability, 450 Reputation, Temple Knight Helmet Drawing (Level 8, sewing 71, Sea battle 71)   (+5 Amity With Ming Dynastic Empire)

....and I highlight "most likely" because once again the game is incorrect in it's wording and facts.
I do not know for sure that the diamond back IS the wanted item.
I had to guess as it was a level 6 viper (and not asked for in another quest).

It could be any viper or snake or python
26 .. [     -283.2   -288.4 ]   ..   Agkistrodon bilineatus = viperidae    .(asked for in Semerang quest)
76 .. [     -1158.0   146.2 ]   ..   Viperidae = Lachesis muta      (asked for in Semerang quest)
77 .. [     -1177.6   82.6 ]  ..    Eastern diamondback rattlesnake
74 .. [     -1075.1   263.9  ]  ..   Black tail Python = Indian python   .(NOTE NOT A VIPER!)
79 .. [     -1295.1   56.8  ]  ..   Bengal python (Bengal Monitor)    .. (NOTE NOT A VIPER!)
33 .. [   276.7   -212.3  ] ..   Anaconda = Python .. 2.0 (NOTE NOT A VIPER!)
[   -1780.5   86.8 ] ..   Adder = daboia russelli – island east of Tourane .. 3.0
. .. [ -1330.4 108.0 ] .. mamba .. 8.0
78 .. [ -1370.8  128.4 ] .. Ophiphagus hannash .. 8.0
17 .. [ -397.8  -132.8 ] .. Xenopus Laveis = xenopeltis unicolor -- east of Alexander  .. 8.0
[ -1493.5  363.5 ] .. Casarea Dussumieri = Cylindrophis maculatus .. 8.0
[ -1492.9  344.2 ] .. Eryx Miliaris = Casarea Dussumieri .. 8.0
[ -1590.8  207.2 ] .. Leptotyphlops goudotii .. 8.0
90 .. [ -1583.1  147.8 ] .. Ramphotyphlops braminus .. 8.0

I think I found it:
78 .. [ -1370.8  128.4 ] .. Ophiphagus hannash .. 8.0 (Level 8)
the description on the picture in the log book says it is the "largest viper in the world"
note that is largest not longest... but translation errors are rather common.

But here's the thing.... I don't think I had that discovered when I submitted the task.... not sure.

let me know if you figure it out exactly what the game wants!

- Ele

***Guide updated - now gives Ophiphagus hannash as correct finding.

PS.
Ophiphagus hannash is not even an animal....  in real life Ophiophagus hanna is - the King Cobra
