3rd Generation (5th Release) Pets
this guide will call the 4 pets released December 2011 3rd Generation.  IGG  does not use any words to differentiate between the "new" 2nd Generation pets and the "new" 3rd Generation pets. It is very confusing in their "news releases".

As of April 15, 2012
Panda Hero, Tiger General, and Unicorn are sold in the Regular (web page) Item mall, and sometimes are on sale in limited sales.
Police Lizard is only available from guild owned cities

[/table]
** There is a bug with these 2 pets.  Monsters are not suppose to attack the pet but we know monsters will attack pet first if owner is not close by, and that monsters continue to attack pet unless owner attacks the monster. This enables pet owner to make kills in a high level area letting pet be mobbed by multiple monsters while the pet owner just picks off the monsters (attacking pet) one by one.  This bug was fixed with the Dec 14, 2011 Update.....now it is unlikely monsters will attack any pet.as Hatred was reduced for ALL pets.

.
Basics:
The pet is stored on your character in the form of a whistle.  Whistles may look slightly different:
In Game Whistle
Item Mall 4th Release/ 2nd Generation Pet Whistle
Item Mall 2nd Release Doom Treasure Pet Whistle

Click the whistle to call out your pet (have it show in scene).
There is a 60 second cooling time before you can re-click the whistle to recall (put away) the pet
The cooling time can be bypassed if you have 2 pet whistles, you can just click the 2nd whistle to recall the first pet.
Once the pet is recalled there is no cooling time before it can be called out again.

The pet does not die if the owner dies.
If the pet is killed, it is recalled and will have lost a lot of hp.  Have food and Health kits/cream ready when you call it out again.

How a pet follows its master:
1) When the pet is over 5 meters away from its master, it turns into running automatically.
2) When the pet within 5m away from its master, it turns into walking automatically.
3) The pet will stop following and stand/ do its random movements routine, when within 1m away from its master.

The situation when pet disappear (into its whistle)
1) when away from masters visual field (ie your run away from pet)
2) when master dies
3) when master is off line

Q: Whats the best pet to use? What pet is strongest??
A: Each pet has different special areas, like some have good doge and others attack etc.  The best pets for fighting are the 3nd Generation 5 release pets.  The first 3 releases of pets are only used to use as exchange pets during the Pet exchange or the 1st and 3rd Release pets can also be used to make pet leather.

Q: How many pets can you have out at once?
A: Only one.

Total cost to reach level 40 if food and Life cream is bought at Pet Merchant (not including purchase of pet):
37,795,000 coin  for old pets
61,040,000 coin  for "new" pets (4th release/ 2nd Generation)

Therefore, I suggest if you are training a pet to turn in for the pet exchange, you train only a pet you can feed with plants you grow yourself.

Q: How many pets can you have total?
A: You can have as many 1st - 3rd generation pets as you want.  You can have up to 7 or 10?? (changed from 3 maximum December 2011)  2nd generation 4th release pets.
It is not known yet if the 3rd Generation 5th release pets have a limit, but I would assume it to be same as the 2nd Generation pets.

Pet Capturing
3nd Generation (5th release) Pets; Unicorn, Panda Hero, Tiger General and Police Lizard can not be tamed/captured.
2nd Generation (4th release) Pets; Ice Fairy, Shadow Reaper, Flaming Urus and Hell Wolf can not be tamed/captured.
3rd Release Colony pets can not be tamed/captured.

If you're trying to catch something stronger than you, you will probably need to pick up some healing potions, or a First-Aid Kit from the Item Mall, depending how much stronger than you the prospective pet is.

You'll need the correct "Food in xxx Favor"  and about 50+ of whatever diet it eats. It never hurts to have more diet handy, either carried with you, or spare on your ship. Your pet will always seem to eat more food than you are prepared for.

If its in an area you're unsure if you can survive in, head there before purchasing the food, just to make sure you
can handle it, unless you have made a friend with someone who will go get the pet for you. Once you're certain you
can handle it or have enough potions that you can survive long enough, then pick up the favored food and the regular
diet.

Taking a level 1 weapon you're least skilled with is also a good idea for low level pets.

Food for Taming Pets (Food in xxxx Favor)
Food for taming pets is ONLY used to tame the pet it is relatively cheap so have 2 or 3 on you in case the first few taming attempts fail.  The taming food is available at:
1) Pet Merchant (Athens, Seville, Zhigu, Cape Town, Atlantis/Bimini); 100,000 silver coin
2) Voucher Exchanger (Seville Dock); 75 Voyage Vouchers for each "barrel" of food.
3) Item Mall (2 IM each) - http://vc.igg.com/mall/item.php?item_type=4

Example of Taming Food:

Regular Pet Food see Satiation

Head on out to where the pet is you're going to capture, and locate the tamable pet. The pets will be listed as
'tamable ', for example, 'tamable ghost bat' or 'tamable gray wolf'.

Before you attempt to tame a pet, make sure you turn off the 'auto counterattack' function. This is so that you don't accidentally kill your prospective pet.

If its possible, hit animal once to get its attention, and then run to a wall, so that your back is up against the
wall and the pet is at your front. If its a low level pet, use a your level 1 weapon or bare hand to do this so you don't kill it.
The reason for this, is that some animals will bump you, and if you step backwards while trying to tame your pet, the
tame will fail.

Once you have its attention, and you are safe enough to begin, right click the favored food in your inventory while
you have the tamable pet targeted. This will begin the taming process, and you'll see the timer ticking. When the timer
runs out, you'll now have a new pet.

If you move, or another player kills the tamable pet before its tamed, or its
attention is taken by someone else hitting it, you will fail the tame. Its best to do this when the only people around
you know what you're doing and do not interfere with you. If its a high level monster, having a friend nearby using
healing potions on you, or using potions on yourself is perfectly fine while taming.

If you're taming a dinosaur or stegosaurus on Hurricane island, you can do everything right, but you'll still fail 2
out of 3 attempts on average (or more), so don't get discouraged, just try again if you can.

Once captured, you will receive a whistle of the pet type in your items.
Right clicking it summons and dismissed your pet.

Upon capturing, your pet will be very hungry, as wild animals never have someone caring for them. The first thing you
need to do it right click on the stack of 50 or so diet food you have on you so that your pet is full. You'll have a
little bit left over, which is good in case you want to keep it out to show it off for a little while.

Should the pet die while you are trying to tame it, the normal spawn time on pets is 30 minutes to 2 hours, so stick
around, and it'll appear again eventually.

Nickname

All pets start out with the name 'tamable ' such as 'tamable ghost bat',
This name is too long to put in again, should you rename the pet. When someone is looking through stalls to find a pet, the whistle will be called 'bat whistle' ..and if the pet is not named 'tamable ghost bat', then the player can not know if the whistle is for a darkwing bat, fox bat, or ghost bat.

So, if you caught the pet to sell in a stall, or for someone else, it is best to not name the pet at all, so that the person who
receives the pet knows what it is, and doesn't have to guess.

However if you plan on keeping the pet...name it what you wish, so long as its an acceptable name, IE no curse words.

The name change interface button location:

Name change interface:

Though there's only limited space to name your pet, some people wish to add in a space in the name. If you just hit
the space bar, it won't allow it. There is a trick to being able to add a space though, its through the ANSI code 255.
To put this in, if you don't know how already, is hold down the ALT key, press 2 5 5 on the numpad on the keyboard,
then release the ALT key. The space is technically a 'NULL' character, but the game displays it as a space.

Level
This is the amount of time the pet has been out + experience gained while fighting + extra experience from using a Taming Stick and/or Beast Mastery Handbook.  It takes 168 hours (1 week) to reach level 40, and about 43.7 days to reach lvl 100 when not using a Taming Stick or fighting w/ your pet.

Your pet will gain 1 experience (on bar) for every minute it is kept alive.
Need confirmation:  All pets but 2nd generation (4th release) will gain 2x exp when actively attacking monsters.
2nd Generation (4th release) pets will gain 1 exp every 20 seconds when fighting = 3x normal experience.

When the pet reaches level 100, it is maximum level and no longer levels or gains experience.

Experience doesn't count up when the pet is dismissed.

A observation on training/feeding of pets:
By visual checking w/ watch: it now takes about 1 minute 3 seconds to earn each point of experience if not fighting.
see chart below for experience points and time time takes to get them .
Times are now slightly longer but it still only takes 7 days to reach lvl 40.

How to level up a pet fast and make it strong
  • fighting; while actively fighting you get 1 experience every 20 seconds vs. every 60 seconds when not fighting
  • You can use you can use taming sticks (IM), so the leveling time is decreased 9 times while fighting and using a stick, (with advanced taming stick) or 6 times while fighting (with common taming stick) [Taming sticks cost between 10 and 210 IM each]
  • Use a Beast Mastery Handbook and an Advanced Training Stick while actively fighting and in effect get 27 times the experience.
  • You can be afk with active skill in a suburb with a weak weapon on you.  For example; I have axe 31 so I equip myself with a hammer, and when you attack a monster you will not take too much damage.  Your pet will attack the monster and get exp fast (try to find a good area for your pet.  Don't go to Athens suburb or HI and if you are a weak player don't do this in high level areas).
  • Never try to use advance taming stick and common taming stick at the same time. If you try to use a second taming stick, you will lose the effect of first one.

Quality (its complicated)

It is assumed every pet except 2nd Generation (4th release)  pets have different randomly given base stat values (ie Basic Attributes) - as we have no data on 1st - 3rd generation pet starting values.
2nd Generation (4th release) pets start their existence with the given values:

These Basic attributes will grow at rates that are variable and are not the same for any pet.
Because the attributes grow at different rates, no 2 pets, even if they are the same level, are alike in overall strength and fighting skills.
Again we do not have data for 1st - 3rd generation pets; so we do not know possible minimum or maximum growth rates for any of their basic attributes.

We do know Basic attribute growth ranges for 2nd Generation pets they as follows

Only 2nd and 3rd Generation pets have Added attributes.
The Added Attributes are: Critical Strike, Critical Strike Resist, Damage Bonus, Damage Reduction and Parry.
These values are totally random.  You pet may have all Added Attributes at zero or you may have numbers for all 5 attributes.
We think the range of possible values is from 0-200 for all 5 Added attributes.

For a comparison of the 4 - 2nd Generation pets; see next post

Quality is calculated by a combination of Basic and Added Attributes.
Generally, the higher the quality, the higher the growth rate of the Basic Attribute stats.  So, a pet with a higher quality number is better because when fully experienced, the Basic Attributes will have grown to larger numbers than that of a lower quality pet.

Any 2nd or 3rd Generation (4th & 5th release) pet OR 1st - 3rd release pet captured or obtained (after the profession update??) will have a quality number.

You can randomly change the quality 2 ways:(2nd Generation Pets only) no limit to number of pills you can use, but they cost real money!
1) Use a Revival Pill (20 IM points) to change the Basic Attributes.  This can be used on any level pet....but the sooner the better for good growth rates.
2) Use a Pet Medicine Pill  (35 IM Points)  to change the Added Attributes.  This can only be used after the pet is level 40 or above.

The Revival Pill will not work on 1st-3rd release pets!
And 1st - 3rd Release pets do not have Added Attributes, so a Pet Medicine Pill will not work.

Supposedly, if you keep the satisfaction at 95 or over, health 95 or over, loyalty 95 or over and hp almost full... the quality of a pet will increase as you level your pet.  That gives you a chance (35%) of increasing the quality when you level up.
( I tried this for 20 min and did not see a change in numbers - Ele)

Also using a Gasolic bloodline (10kk pet trader) gives you a chance to get more quality when you level up (2nd Generation pets only)

Changes only these attributes:

Changes only these attributes:

HP (hit points)
Hp will decrease only when fighting.  You can use regular health potions  (low, secondary or High level HP) on your pet if you have the healing skill.  You can buy minor, medium and large recovery pills form the Pet Merchant.  Or if your profession is Armed Businessman you can heal your pet with Medicine Cabinets (small, medium or big).

Healthy
Not to be confused with hp (hit points)! The pets health is more or less it's life span. When the pet's health reaches
zero, the pet dies forever and the whistle goes away.

The health steadily decreases when the pet is active/out at a rate based on how well fed the pet is.  To keep it healthy requires the player to use pet first aid kits or junior life cream.
Junior Life Cream is available from the Pet Merchant
Health kits are available from the Item Mall.  They come in 3 strengths. The lowest level one recovers 10 health, the mid level kit recovers 20 health, and the senior kit recovers 30 health.

Health does NOT improve when the pet is full/ fully satiated.  You must use Life cream or Health kits.

Junior Life Cream

Health kits

There are three states to pet health, with healthy (green) being the best. When the health drops to below 60, the pet
becomes ill (yellow). When the health drops to below 30, the pet comes weak (red).
The pets health affects the pet's movement speed.

When your pet is Healthy (Green) 60 -100: moving speed is 100%
When your pet is Ill (Yellow) 30 - 59;  moving speed is 60%
When your pet is Weak (Red) 1 - 29; moving speed 30%
And remember, when the pet his 0 health, it dies permanently.

I observed 1 health point used in approximately every 10 min 24 seconds.
so that is 1 junior life cream every 1 hour 44 min or approximately 97 junior life cream to get to level 40. life cream sells for 150,000 coin.
That is 14,550,000 coin to reach level 40  - Ele

Satiation (ie. Hunger)
Satiation, is your pet's Hunger. You pet requires 1 food for every minute (1 min 5 sec) it's standing by your side.
If the pet is dismissed (ie. you have the whistle, but the pet is not out) it doesn't require anything. Each minute
it lives, the satiation lowers 1 point, when the satiation drops below 70, its no longer in 'Satiation' and is now in
'Ordinary', and once it's below 50, it becomes 'Hungry'.
The three states of satiation affect your pet's statistics.
When your pet is in Satiation (Green) it's attack power increases 20%, and defense lowers 10%
When your pet is in Ordinary (Yellow) it's combat stats are all at base values
When your pet is in Hungry (Red) its attack power and defense lower 20%

Satiation also affects other things as well. When your pet levels, if satiation is in the green range, Loyality will increase faster. When it's in the yellow range, loyalty increases only slightly, and when it's in the red range, it will
lose 1 loyalty every 5 minutes.

In addition to this, when your pet's satiation is in the green range, your pet's health will decrease only 1 point every
15-20 minutes, when it's in the yellow range it will decrease 1 every 10-15 minutes, and when its in red, it will
decrease 1 every 5 minutes. More on loyalty and health in a second.

Pet Merchant is located in Athens, Seville, Zhigu. Capetown

Regular Pet Food
Is always sold by the alchemist or item seller in the towns. And the Pet Merchant.
Fresh Meat is in Athens, Algiers, Seville, Hamburg, Muscat, Quanzhou, Zhigu, Seoul
Fresh Vegetables are in Athens, Alexander, Algiers, Seville, Hamburg, Muscat, Quanzhou, Zhigu, Seoul
Fresh Fruit is in Athens, Alexander, Algiers, Seville, Hamburg, Muscat, Quanzhou, Zhigu, Seoul.
Pet Merchant (Athens, Seville, Zhigu); All types of food

Any animal that eats "Fresh Vegetable" will also eat any Normal Crop, High Level Crop or Quality Crops.
These crops can be grown by players.
Normal crops will give 1 satiation per plant
High level crops will give 2 satiation per plant
Quality Crops will give 3 satiation per plant.
Read the Planting Guide for further information on crops.

Rat Meat, available in the jail, does NOT work as a substitute for any of the 4 types of food.

By visual observation your pet eats 1 satiation every 65 seconds
so for food to level 40 (from the pet merchant): you will need approximately 9,298 food.
Pet food costs 2,500 each or 5,000 each for compounding pet food.
That is 23,245,000 or 46,490,000 coin in food to level your pet to 40!

Loyalty (Fealty)
Your pets loyalty is how much it likes you. Loyalty increases as the pet levels, when the pet is Satiation or Ordinary.
If kept full, and they never die, most pets reach 100 (maximum) loyalty by level 10 or so. When the pet's loyalty hits
0, the pet will run away forever.

Loyalty has also been seen to affect statistics of the pet when it levels to a minor degree, enough to that in 15 levels
there can be a difference in statistics between the same pets.

Whenever your pet's hp reach zero, the pet is dismissed for 5 minutes, and the loyalty will drop 12 points.

You can buy a Low Level Beast Training Paste from the Pet Merchant.  It restores 5 points of loyalty and calls back your pet should it run away.
It costs xxxx

If you do not reset the Auto Recovery, I have found out the hard way your pet will die but go back into the whistle... and need a lot of healing and loose a lot of loyalty.

All types of Healing kits, Health kits and Food work with this interface EXCEPT:

1)  Medicine Cabinets
2)  Pet first aid kits (you must use Junior life cream for auto recovery of health)

Skills Tab

Pet Skills
There are (were) 5 possible pet skills. All pets start out with the 3 basic skills, stay, follow, and attack. They can also learn the
skills 'Pet on Alert' and 'Frenzy'. The skills are on the second tab of the pet window, and you can drag them to the
action bar for easier access.
The skills do the following things
Stay - Stays where it is and doesn't move, even if attacked
Follow - Runs behind you as best it can, and won't attack unless commanded
Attack - (Requires target) Runs after and attempts to kill until it gets too far away from you, dies, or kills
Alert - It follows, but automatically counter attacks things that hit it, putting it into a state of attack
Frenzy - Follows, but when it nears anything that doesn't require force attack, it targets it and attacks it
** Alert and Frenzy skill books are no longer available in the game - they got bugged and were removed

2nd generation pet's don't need the alert and frenzy skills because the pets will auto attack everything that attacks it's master.  If your pet attacks a tasked person but you do not attack that person you won't get tasked (?? not sure if true).  If you use frenzy skill the pet will attack everything that is near him, like other players or guards and you will go red, use it only if you are in Jejudo suburb or any not pvp safe place but I don't think you really need it.

If you want the pet to kill something that requires force attacking, hold down CTRL when selecting attack.

Also, as far as the game rules are concerned, when ever you commit the pet to an action, it knows that the pet only
responds to commands given by its master, and judges accordingly. If you tell the pet to attack a blue player, both
you and your pet will become pink or red, and if it kills the player, you will receive a notoriety point. Likewise,
killing npcs for towns will decrease your amity with the town.

Your pet's combat stats include it's attack power, defense rating, hedge rate, and hit chance. These are all based on
your pet type and its care while raising, but some are better in some fields than others.

If your pet's hp reach zero, your pet temporarily dies, and returns to the whistle, which cannot be used to summon the
pet again for 5 minutes. When it's summoned again, it will have very low hit points, and will either require time to
recover them naturally, or you may use medicine skills on the pet to recover them faster, just as you would another
player.

Exclusive and Common pet skills are only available to 2nd generation (4th release pets) see next post for further information.

Bag Tab

Only 2nd Generation (4th release pets) and 3rd Generation (5th release pets) can use the bag function.
see next post for further details.

Auto-Cast
players can set up their pets to use skills automatically.

Attack, Stay, and Follow are permanently assigned to the icons shown below.

Auto cast will continually activate the skill while the pet is out.
If pet is put away the skill will start it's timed countdown.

You can also activate the skill by just clicking the slot to activate the skill.
The timed count down will begin immediately and the skill will not auto restart if you activate it in this manner.

So the big question.....
Which 3rd Generation (5th release) pet is better:
(3rd Generation 5th release pets are stronger than 2nd Generation 4th release pets!)
(2nd Generation 4th release are stronger than the 1st Generation 1st-3rd release pets)

Each pet is stronger at/in different stats.
first to understand how the pet stats are calculated:

we are given a base stat.. and then the growth rate is added each level we obtain...
so level 1 the pet has skill level x.... then level 2 the pet has skill x+ GR  .... lvl 3 = x +2GR....  lvl 4= x+3GR  etc...
so max value = x+99GR
*For some reason actual values may be plus or minus 1 calculated value due to game rounding of values.

For comparison I calculated a level 100 pet w/ no jewlery both the worst and best possible value for each stat
then color coded them.   Here is the Result:

3rd Generation Pets:

3rd Generation Pet skills:
Panda: Damage Bonus
Unicorn:  Damage Reduction
Tiger: Critical Strike Resist
Lizard: Critical Strike

2nd Generation Pets:

Please note that there may not be much actual difference between levels.
For instance the Dodge of a shadow reaper and and Ice fairy may indeed be the same... as the growth rate is random, the 2nd ranked fairy may indeed be worse in dodge than the 3rd ranked Reaper or even worse thant the lowest ranked Urus.

However you can see the trends that

The Urus has the highest HP and Defense - so is a good tank.
The Fairy has a high hit rate but not so good at everything else - so is good at long range attacking.
The hell wolf and shadow reaper have their trade offs.

You may also want to compare pet skills as each skill compliments a different method of fighting ie. gives a different type of buff.   See post below for pet skills.

How to use the bag
To unlock the spaces you need to buy Pet Enlargement Bags from IM (or from other players) Pet enlargement bag that costs 15 IM points and it will open one slot.
You can only open 10 slots (maximum). If you put food into the bag the pet will auto feed, but it won't auto heal if you put junior creams in the pet bag.

Evolutions

When a new pet reaches Level 40, it will trigger an evolution to take place. Once that same pet reaches Level 99, it will trigger a 2nd evolution. The appearance of the pet changes each time an evolution is triggered.
I have only noticed this on the Hell Wolf, because the other 3 pets glow/flame/mist already at level 1 - Ele

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Some tips:

- don't be very happy because you have a high quality pet if you want to level your pet up while fighting.. More attack+accuracy, the faster the pet kills the mob, less time in attack stance, less 3x exp for pet. The best configuration: lots of defense/dodge. if needed, use revival pill to get lower stats. (this recommended only for the AVID Item Mall user... it will cost a lot of real money)
So it is best to level a high quality pet slowly, and just leave him out overnight where there are no monsters in a safe place.

- the hi level hp cabinets are too expensive considering the amount of hp recovered. use secondary when you can.

- go where your pet takes more time to kill the monster. if you use 1 hp cab in more than 1 minute you just saved silver from food consumption - 3 exp non fighting leveling (3 minutes) = 3 food = 24k silver. 1 medium hp cabinet = 20k silver

- you can use taming sticks, so the leveling time is decreased like 9 times (with advanced taming stick) or 4 times (with common taming stick)

Some particular info:
- the fairy has range attack. can be put in stop stance and you can go on the spawn point of the monster. when it hits you the fairy retaliates from the place it's standing. (this doesn't work on other pets because they don't retaliate on stop) - so, no hp cabinets used

- the hell wolf has an exclusive skill that makes the pet heal itself (at lvl 30) - again, no hp cabinets.

- the bull can be leveled easier this way because it has high defense by default and it has a exclusive skill that grants him a damage buff - no hp cabinets needed

The maximum amount of open slots/skills your pet can have is 2 Exclusive and 2 Common pet skills

Most people fill the first automatically open (Exclusive) slot with the skills bought from the pet merchant.

These Exclusive skills can be differentiated from common skills by the picture of the pet on the cover of the books. To use the Pet merchant skill books you must start with the level 1 book and click them in series as you level. However, you should also be able to fill this slot with skills form the Pet Skill Tutor in SevillePet Skill Tutor skills do not have to be used in series.  You only need to buy the highest level your pet can use.

Example 1: Your pet is level 73,  And you want to use Pet Merchant skill books:You would buy level 1, 20, 40 and 60.Click the level 1 book first, followed by the level 20 book, then the level 40 and finally the level 60.You can buy the books at any time, but I suggest to save space, you buy them only when your pet's levels are high enough to use the books.Example 2: Your pet is level 73 and you want to use a Pet Skill tutor book:Buy the level 70 book for the type of pet you have.

To open More slots:
There are 2 items that open more slots.Gasolic bloodlineandPoodig bloodlinethey can not be used at the same time.... **These extra slots and skills will only stay open for one week (168 hours). You will have to repurchase the Gasoloc or Poodig bloodlines and the skills that were in the slots to continue to have theses skills. To open 1 common skill slot use a Gasolic bloodlineThese are available at the Pet Merchant* I do not know if you can use 2 Gasolic bloodlines during the same 168 hr time period.

To open One Exclusive and 2 Common slots use a Poodig bloodlineThese are only available through the Item mall.

As of June 2012 you can now open the last 2 Exclusive slots by using

When you click a skill book (such as the common skill in the picture)it will fill your pet's slot
