The original guide was started by mysterian but never got past the beginner cities.
An Adventurer does mostly discoveries, but also does some land hunting/killing quests.
You gain manuverability and voyage while searching for each discovery item. You get a "reward" of reputation, and coin for each item authenticated. And in some cases a RANDOM alchemy or sewing (hat) drawing, and/or a "chart" for a geographic area (which clears off the black on your big map) will also be given when you "make a discovery".
"I do not recommend this job class for someone who get bored easily, or does not have a basic understanding of the game" - mysterian
Recommendations for ships:
Use one with a high number of sailors.... ie. just use a good figurehead.
[ we now have the navigation star figurehead. This FH refined with the stones from the beginner quest line quest #100 will be all you need for a long time]
Originally raiders were intended as the adventure ships because they were fast and collect maneuverability over 61... but with dragon gunboats [now Caraoelle ships]... I don't think any of it matters anymore. Though to do level 7 discoveries and above, you will have to use a raider because no other ship collects maneuverability over 61.
So Plan ahead!!! When you need to start doing level 7 discoveries are you going to make your battleship into a raider??? (you can but if you switch back you will loose your maneuverability).
It may be best to just buy another ship and start it as a raider. If you are on level 3 discoveries and just realized you were using your BS for discoveries, your only option to recover the maneuverability (as it stays with the ship) is to start an Alt and have them do all discoveries to where you stopped. Then trade the ship. or buy a level 3 raider from other players.
I like Buckshot Cannons their firing angle is good if you want to fight off the pirates. But I suggest (to keep your ship light) just making sure you never have anything in your ship's "goods". If your sailors happen to fish during a discovery, immediately throw the fish overboard. You will be randomly attacked once in a great while, but just "overwhelm" them or bribe them. ok, and bring just a few armor piercing cannonballs in case overwhelm doesn't work. (just enough to kill 2 ships). [Now we have the Sea Mermaid which keeps you free from pirate attack]
What to bring with you:
No matter where you're going, you should bring at a minimum, 1000 provisions. Because 9 out of 10 times, by the time you run out, you will be near another port, so you'll be able to restock. - mysterian
I like to use weightless provisions.... one bundle lasts a loooong time.
and don't forget the sailor first aid kits. You don't need ship repair kits if you have the shipbuilding skill.
1) All telescopes are found in drifters or wreckage drifters.
I don't think there is a correlation between the area and the level of telescope. I have gotten both level 1 and level 9 telescopes in the Far East Asia area.
2) You can also get the level 1 telescope from one quest in each of the 4 beginner cities (4 level 1 telescopes total) and you can get the Level 2 Telescope from the "Information transference" quest in Genoa.
3) You can also buy them from other players.
4) You can now buy all levels of telescopes from the blacksmith npc in any city.
The minimum requirements to use telescopes;
Level 1 discoveries do not require a telescope
Level 2 discoveries require a level 2 ship, a level 1 telescope, and maneuverability 11
Level 3 discoveries require a level 3 ship, a level 2 telescope, and maneuverability 21
Level 4 discoveries require a level 4 ship, a level 3 telescope, and maneuverability 31
Level 5 discoveries require a level 5 ship, a level 4 telescope, and maneuverability 41
Level 6 discoveries require a level 6 ship, a level 5 telescope, and maneuverability 51
Level 7 discoveries require a level 7 ship, a level 6 telescope, and maneuverability 61
Level 8 discoveries require a level 8 ship, a level 7 telescope, and maneuverability 71
Level 9 discoveries require a level 9 ship, a level 8 telescope, and maneuverability 81
Level 10 discoveries require at minimum a Level 9 ship, level 9 telescope? a Golden Compass, and maneuverability 91.
so by default
level 2 requires Voyage 11 - you need a level 2 ship
level 3 requires Voyage 21 - you need a level 3 ship
level 4 requires Voyage 31 - you need a level 4 ship
level 5 requires Voyage 41 - you need a level 5 ship
How to do Discoveries
Sail to the given coordinates. When sparklies appear, try to stop your ship as close to the center of the sparlkies as possible. Click the Discovery icon (Command window - At sea - picture of a sailor/captain looking through a telescope). It will ask you how many sailors to send. 15-20 is recommend for level 1 discoveries, more as each level progresses.
For ease of use, drag the discovery icon into your navigation bar.
ALL DISCOVERIES MUST BE AUTHENTICATED BEFORE YOU CAN TURN THEM INTO THE AA MASTER!!

If you don't understand how to authenticate try: http://forum.vc.igg.com/viewthread.php?tid=13364
1) If you plan on doing discoveries seriously, start a collection of telescopes. I have one of every level and make them available to my guild mates if they need them. [point now moot as you can buy them from blacksmith]
2) Do all the discoveries of one level.... all at once.
ALL COORDINATES are located in the Discovery points guide (some level 10 may be missing)
I find it is best if you copy and paste the list into a text editor then print them out. that way you can cross off the points as you find them.
Level 10 discoveries are listed at the end of the discovery point location Library- discussion (link).
3) If you do all discoveries you will be assured to have found the item the AA Master is requesting.... as you read the guide you will see some of the difficulty I had figuring out what was wanted.
4) If you plan to do all the discoveries, Get the sailor first aid kits out of every drifter you pass. Collect the secondary and High levels for the 7-10 discoveries!
5) Learn ship building so you can repair your ship when doing discoveries and not have to carry heavy repair kits.
6) Please read the helpful hints in the discoveries guide!!! They will help you find your items faster.
Other hints I've liked:
*You can put logbooks in your ship
*90% or more discoveries happen after "Sailor is missing during exploration"
*Sending ~30 sailors is worth much more than sending max. Less money to waste, and event fires quite quickly.
*Discoveries can be mostly found close to shore, but lots of them are in shallow water (close to shore, but water is slightly darker during night / light color during day.
- 792389 (players name)
*storyline quests that reward you with voyage do NOT give maneuverability points.
*Drop your sails to minimum to conserve provisions.
*If your moving at a slow sail speed you don't see sparkles in the same spot that you just flew through at full sail speed.
*For Discovery lvl 10, I use lvl 9 ship with Golden Compas and it works.
*About Persepolis. If you happen to be so unlucky as to get sparkles ON LAND. Try using the following trick: Open your world map. Click on the map away from land, to point your boat correctly. Then click a spot on the map INLAND. That is, on the land part of the map. You will notice your boat goes beyond the regular borders. This is the only way, other than a maintenance cycle, to get a sparkle that is unreachable.
You will need the following maneuverability levels to get the Adventure Alliance NPC's to give you quests:
Istanbul, Athens, Alexander, Beirut : Level 1, 5 - 8
Genoa : 11 - 13, 18
Venice, Tripoli : 11-13, 15, 18

There are several discovery items/animals that are often hard to find.
Here is a list of a few and where to read about them (if I find a link).
Giraffe, Temple of Apollo, Olympia, Clove... http://forum.vc.igg.com/viewthread.php?tid=5891 and http://forum.vc.igg.com/viewthread.php?tid=14164
Hunters Gazelle; http://forum.vc.igg.com/viewthread.php?tid=14226 and http://forum.vc.igg.com/redirect ... oto=newpost#newpost
Cattle Aigret: http://forum.vc.igg.com/viewthread.php?tid=7142&extra=&page=37
Hints for hard to find items;
1) You may have to criss cross the area many times. Its not unusual to pass over an area 5 -7 times before the sparklies show.
2) Remember the coordinates can change up to 10 in any direction.
3) Come back on another day.
4) Make sure your Maneuverability is high enough.
5) Come back when you have the next higher ship and telescope.
