did a little research and turns out Klaus has done some work in China...  so that is probably why he is able to visit so easily.

Among Badelt's most critically celebrated scores are the Chinese fantasy film The Promise[3][4][5] and DreamWorks' remake of The Time Machine, the latter of which earned him the Discovery of the Year Award at the World Soundtrack Awards 2003. He also wrote the music for the closing ceremonies at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, and was commissioned to write an opera about China's First Emperor, to be premiered in 2015.[needs update]

Klaus worked on the soundtrack for The Promise for almost 6 months. The song which can be heard in the movie's end credits is an ancient folk song in China, and very few people can still sing it. For that, Klaus traveled almost two weeks in China to find someone who was able to sing the whole folk song in order to rearrange it for the score.


Originally, it was Alan Silvestri who was assigned to write the score (for 2003 film Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl).  In the end, he scored the whole film, but the producers and Jerry Bruckheimer didn't like the "feel" of the score.

So they hired Hans Zimmer's, Remote Control Productions to take over and rewrite the entire score in just a few months. At the time, Hans was working on The Last Samuri, so legally, he couldn't place his name on the Pirate score. He let one of his students at the time, Klaus, take over. Hans worked "behind-the-scenes" with Klaus, making cues and themes with him. There were several other "ghost writers" (composers who worked on the project but don't get credit) involved who helped, and together they spit out a brand new score for the film before the dead line. This also explains why most of the score is composed of electronic instruments, since Han's didn't have time to record real ones.
